Barrister A. R. Yusuf (1932–2002)
Barrister A. R. Yusuf was a respected lawyer, politician, and public servant of Bangladesh. Born in Delhi on 1 January 1932, he studied at Jagannath College and the University of Dhaka before qualifying as a Barrister-at-Law in England in 1965. During his student life, he founded the National Student Federation (NSF), championing student rights. Under President Ershad in 1985, he served as Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, and Minister of Information. Renowned for his integrity, he resigned from ministerial office over matters of principle, setting an example of ethics over power. Until his passing on 11 January 2002, he was admired for his legal acumen, honesty, and dedication to public service.
A.K.M. Fazlul Kabir Chowdhury (1917–1972)
A.K.M. Fazlul Kabir Chowdhury, born in Gohira, Raozan, was a leading politician, lawyer, and social reformer of East Pakistan. Educated at the University of Calcutta, he served as Leader of the Opposition in the East Pakistan Provincial Assembly and chaired its Legislative Committee. He was the founding president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of the Chittagong Port Trust, and founder of Raozan College (1963). In 1962, alongside Nobel Laureate Father Dominique Pire, he launched the Island of Peace in his ancestral village, supporting refugees and local welfare. He passed away in 1972, remembered as a visionary statesman combining political leadership with education and welfare.
A.B.M. Fazle Karim Chowdhury
A.B.M. Fazle Karim Chowdhury (b. 1954, Chittagong) is a five-time elected Member of Parliament for Raozan (Chattogram-6), widely respected for his leadership, integrity, and development initiatives. A graduate of the University of Chittagong in History, he chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committees on Railways and on Housing & Public Works. Internationally, he served as President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians. Within Bangladesh, he is credited with transforming Raozan into a highly developed constituency with awards in tree plantation, agriculture, and fisheries. He is recognized as a reform-minded parliamentarian inspiring leadership grounded in community progress.
Faraaz Karim Chowdhury
Faraaz Karim Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi social worker and public figure based in Chittagong, renowned for grassroots initiatives aimed at fostering community support, kindness, and collective action. Born into a politically influential family as the son of A.B.M. Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Faraaz has carved his own path outside of institutional politics, emphasizing direct acts of service and humanitarian relief through digital mobilization. With millions of followers on digital platforms, he regularly organizes disaster relief campaigns (floods, fires) and coordinates community welfare networks, inspiring the youth across Bangladesh.
